Fibromyalgi Awareness day

Sunday the 12th of May is Fibromyalgia Awareness day!
Although the first recorded Fibromyalgia symptoms date back as far as Biblical times, it wasn't until 1987 that the American Medical Association recognized Fibromyalgia as a true illness and cause of disability
Many people with Fibromyalgia don't look sick, but that doesn't mean they're not suffering. Because it's not easy to see, it's often descried as an invisible illness, as are many other forms of chronic illness.

Bowen can assist with Fibromyalgia. However I always recommend people with Fibromyalgia go to a Naturopath to get magnesium supplements. I am a firm believer that you need to work out the right dosage for the individual. Magnesium is very useful for soothing frayed nerves and muscles. It's also found in Epsom Salts, which is why soaking in Epsom Salts makes such a difference for sore muscles! Another very important thing which is very underrated is hydration. No healing can occur in someone who is dehydrated.Water is needed for the body to knit the damaged fibers back together. But the biggest help to people who suffer any kind of Chronic Illness is support. They need to be able to keep their spirits high in order to recover. You could listen to what they have to say, or help them think of or remember the good things in their lives, or both!

One of the big things my own experience with Chronic Illness has taught me is it's very important to look after yourself. I know it's a saying that everyone has heard before, but it's very true that you can't look after others if you don't look after yourself!

Mr Bowen's Remedy for bringing out bruising

Apple Cider Vinegar

This aids cellular healing. Use for damaged tissue, bruising and aiding soft tissue injuries.

Soak a face washer in apple cider vinegar and wrap around the injured area like a poultice. (For sensitive skin, dilute the vinegar with water).
Put Glad wrap (cling film/ saran wrap) over it and cover with a bandage.
Leave on overnight or at least four to five hours.

We have a wonderful variation of this product available for sale in store. Click here or ask in store for more details.

Bowen for Diabetes course

On the second of February I went to a great seminar on Bowen For Diabetes. I now have lots of Bowen Procedures to help regulate Blood sugar. I can also now teach clients how to "Hit the Lat" also known as the Bandaid move, by just using a golf ball. A very useful move, as it can help people who are going through shock among many other things. I have been given many exercises for helping circulation too!

Epsom Salts - Home Remedy

What could be better than soaking your tired feet after a long hot day? Bowen had a rememdy for Bunions or Calcification in Joints:

Use Two tablespoons of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulphate) in a bowl of warm water.
Soak for 20 mins, then rub in Iodex, or CMS ointment (Iodine + Methyl Salicylate). These can be tricky to find in Australia, but never fear, a Bowen Therapist who is also a chemist has developed an essential oil blend called Bowtech ease to do the trick.

Using this treatment often will  smooth out bunions.

If you would like we have a special version available in store, for only $5.00. Click here for more information or please ask in store.

Beat the Heat

Beat the heat

We are in our last month of Summer, but the weather is still very hot and dry.
It can be very easy in this weather to do too much or get run down and get heat stroke. Symptoms of heat stroke include:

• very high body temperature
• red, hot and dry skin
• dry swollen tongue
• rapid pulse
• shallow, rapid breathing
• throbbing headache
• confusion or 'strange' behaviour
• nausea
• possible loss of consciousness.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Seek medical assistance immediately, cool the person and apply first aid

To treat
• Call triple zero (000) for an ambulance
• Get the person to a cool, shady area and lay them down while you're waiting for emergency medical help
• Cool the person rapidly, using whatever methods you can. For example, immerse the person in a tub of cool water; place the person in a cool shower; spray the person with cool water from a garden hose; sponge the person with cool water; or if the humidity is low, wrap the victim in a cool, wet sheet and fan them vigorously, put ice pack on the person's wrists, armpits, groin area and side of neck.
• If they are able to drink, give the person cool non-alcoholic drinks.
• Do NOT give the person alcoholic drinks.
• If unconscious, position the person on their side and clear their airway.
• If medical attention is delayed, seek further instructions from ambulance or hospital emergency staff.

This summer please remember your bush fire safety plans, and keep listening to your local radio station, or to ABC radio.  You can also keep up to date by checking the DSE website, the CFA website, or call the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on  1800 240 667. If you have a smartphone, like an iPhone or an Android, you can download an app from the CFA to help keep you connected.

Bowen for Diabetes

Just did a fantastic course on Bowen Therapy for Diabetics with Robyn Wood. Robyn is a Senoir Instructor for Bowtech, and actually grew up knowing Mr. Bowen. It was a fantastic opportunity! If you have diabetes or know anyone else who has Diabetes and would like to know more, please give me a call on 0427 588 851

Happy New Year!

I hope you have had a lovely Christmas and New Years celebration!

Today is the first day back at work for me, and for the girls at reception. We are all looking forward to being there for you throughout the coming year.

What are your New Years Resolutions?

Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder. -Thoreau.
Last year I wrote an article called 12 Tips for a Happier You.  Being so close into the New Year I am making a resolution to be happier, as I  believe happiness makes a huge impact on health and well being. One of the health professionals I talked to recommended making a list of things that make you happy, or things that bring a smile to your face, and following that list.  They don't have to be big things, in fact, the smaller the better! When you first start you might have trouble thinking of things, but don't worry, it will get easier as you  go along.

Your list could include things like

  • Spending time with loved ones
  • Playing Music
  • Gardening
  • Making a cup of tea or coffee, and drinking it.
  • Playing with pet
  • Writing
  • Watching a movie
  • Going for a walk
  • Going to sleep at a regular time
  • Singing
  • Dancing

Let me know what makes you happy.

Do what makes you happy but above all else, be kind to yourself.

Many of my clients shared their tips on how they get to sleep.

Last month I asked many of you what you do when you have difficulty sleeping. We got some fantastic suggestions. Angel recommended walking 10 minutes barefoot on grass before bedtime, Emma suggested covering the basics, making sure you're comfortable, not too hot or cold,  and Penny recommended not having too many distractions, and listening to relaxing music. Do you have any suggestions?

As this is the last newsletter for 2012, I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, and a happy, safe and prosperous New Year.

Remember to look after yourself!
